Basic Rules
Here's the quick summary: You play nice, we play nice.
Multiple IDs
- Do not set up multiple user IDs for yourself. This is especially true if you've ever had a "personal problem" on this site and attempt to create a new user ID to leave your past behind. You are free to change your nickname as much as you want but the same person creating multiple IDs on WWR will not be tolerated and will result in being denied access to the system.
The following few personality problems from a very small percentage of people have resulted in the vast majority of community problems over the years. This excellent guide to dealing with trolls and other problem personalities reflects the general course of action taken here at WWR.
Intoxication
- Repeated interactions while being grossly intoxicated will result in being asked to leave or access being denied. Having fun is fine - but intoxicated interactions almost always leads to serious problems between people and will not be tolerated.
Hate speech
- Seriously insulting other chatters or administrators personally or directing hate speech at others will not be tolerated and will result in access being denied.
Harassment
- If you have been denied access or are otherwise upset with your treatment on this website, do not call me on the telephone to complain or explain or otherwise engage me. I consider this harassment and will take appropriate action including contacting law enforcement agencies, your place of work or other entities who will help put an end to your internet harassment.
The following two rules will be maintained as long as Jim is required to back this site and the house concerts with his own personal funds. If and when WWR becomes a self-sustaining financial, technical and managed entity, then these rules need not apply. The reason for these rules is because I personally have a right and duty to stand up for what I believe in and am willing to spend my time and life supporting.
Proselytizing
- This is not a christian website. Any attempt to proselytize the christian faith in a way that I find insensitive to other belief systems will result in immediate and permanent lockout. There are thousands of appropriate places for you to share your faith in the exclusivity of your beliefs - this is not one of them.
Politics
- This is not a website for expressing political views that do not condone the peaceful non-violent coexistence of the entire human species and respect for all aspects of the natural world. The genres of music we play do not mesh with violence, war, militarism, racism, elitism, hate, intolerance, killing, cruelty to other species, environmental waste or the destruction of nature. I retain the right to immediately and permanently lock out anyone I deem as publicly disruptive to the polite sharing of ideas rooted in these core values. There are thousands of places to find support for war, hatred, corporatism, exclusivity, greed, gluttony of natural resources and intolerance - this is not one of them.
Bottom line: This is not a kiddie or adolescent chat site. We do not suffer fools gladly. Act like a fun-loving mature, respectful adult with multiple facets and you'll get along just fine.
Privacy
Basically, we don't give information about you to anyone for commercial gain. We don't give out your email address or spam you. But we do record just about everything you do on this site, including what you say in chat and what links you click on. Once it's recorded, people can come to the site (including search engines) and find whatever you said or did. So there's nothing private about anything you do while on the site. Nor can we control what other people may do with information you type in the chat or elsewhere on the site.
We record your IP and try to associate it with IPs of listeners and their geographic location. Reports of where listeners are from is sent to artists on a regular basis along with information about how many time people clicked to visit their site(s). (They really like seeing they're being heard all over the world and not just in some po-dunk town in Alaska. Blows their minds.) We could figure out who was actually listening to which artists and who clicked on which links, but we don't. But we could. Just wanted you to know.
When we are on the air, we frequently address our listeners by their chat names. We make a sincere effort not to use real names, particularly if the user has made it clear they do not want their real name used. If you never give out your real name we definitely won't use it. But if you have a website and post a link to it and it has your real name posted, we may mention it on-air as we surf your site. If we find out your real name when you order a CD or make a donation, we won't use it on-air unless you do first. If you'd rather have us never mention you on air or talk to you on-air, please send us an email making it clear you wish to remain completely private and do not want to be addressed in any manner on-air. We'll do our best. But honestly, you'd be better off just not using the chat.
If you really are concerned about privacy, the internet is a horrible place for you to hang out. There is no such thing as privacy on the internet and anyone who tries to assure you that they can cloak your activities is lying. If you're really concerned, we suggest you stay off the website and just tune into the webcast. About all we know then is that someone was listening. But if the feds or mafia wanted to know exactly who that someone was, they could easily figure it out.
Here's an example of how your actions on this site could be used 'against' you. If you were to harass people who use this site, including the operators, and continued to harass them or threaten them or continue to attempt accessing this system after being 1) warned to stop and/or 2) locked out of the system on a permanent basis ... we can (and would) use the harassment or threats you left, along with any other incriminating information about your online behavior on this site or any public site, to do whatever was necessary to get you to stop. This could include providing the information to your employer, your family or law enforcement. Using IP spoofing methods after being denied access to the system is harassment and is a clear case of attempting to gain access when you are no longer welcome.
The bottom line here is, if we ask you to leave because of your behavior, please do. There is zero tolerance for repeated harassment. We will take whatever steps are necessary to get you to leave us and this site alone. Just do everyone a favor and find another one of the millions of other sites to hang out at. Thank you.
But as far as us tracking where you go or what you do after you leave the site, or us giving out personal information or your email address, we don't.
If You Want To Be Removed From WWR
If you no longer want to be a part of the Whole Wheat Radio website and ask to have your pages and / or images removed, every effort will be made to accommodate your request in a timely manner. You are entitled to ask to be removed and we respect that need.
If you ask to be removed or are removed by an administrator, it is final. There are no exceptions. None.
Do not show up days or weeks later asking to be restored. You can set up another userid, but if you persist in showing up, asking to be removed and then showing up again, you will be asked or forced to leave permanently. None of us have time for this sort of game playing.
Please consider listening only if you do not like the website.
If you do ask to be removed, consider waiting until you've had a chance to calmly process whatever is disturbing you. We all have moments of frustration with this site and generally a cooling-off period helps us see the issue more clearly and make decisions we are happy with. Here's an old saying that sums it up nicely: Act in haste ... repent in leisure.
The Buck Stops Here
Although I hope Whole Wheat Radio remains a community of independent music zealots, at this point I, Jim Kloss, still have final and ultimate say over what happens on this website or with Whole Wheat Radio in general. In making decisions, I try to be fair and consider all sides of a story. But, no matter what I do, someone will always be unhappy. I do not enjoy having to make unpopular decisions. But if you cannot abide by my decisions or you already have a pretty good idea that you don't like me or my philosophies, you should not participate in this site.
If you choose to debate me and I ultimately disagree with you after hearing your arguments, you will lose the argument. If you cannot abide by this, leave the site now. Unfortunately, in order to run a growing website like Whole Wheat Radio with its "funky" community, a controversial mission and a non-commercial non-hyped financial model it's necessary for someone to be in charge. Like it or not, I am that person. If you would like to be, I sincerely encourage you to start your own community website.
Finally, I will not tolerate threats or serious public insults anywhere on this site or on the stream about my personal life, especially my relationship with any member of my family or Esther. This includes public speculation about personal aspects of my personal relationships. I do not mind being teased as long as the jokes are lighthearted and based in fun and jest. I generally will not respond to serious insults, threats or gross criticism but reserve the right to remove and/or permanently lock anyone out of the Whole Wheat Radio system at anytime without explanation.
