Minor Menu Change Suggestion
The reason I asked so many questions was that I wanted to be sure of not stepping on any toes, being the newb here and all. Feeling somewhat reassured, however let me jump in and suggest a simple change: Take the link that says "Recently Played Music" and rename it "What Played Recently?". Then move the link to just below "What's Playing?" This way these two links would be together, which seems more logical to me. Let me know what you think, or just go ahead and make the change. BTW, Kelli, who else is helping you with documentation. I'd like to be sure they get notice of any significant ideas, too.Gearhead (talk/contribs) 09:47, September 19, 2008 (AKDT)
Daily Topics
Hi Kelli. Just a few initial thoughts regarding the new experimental Daily Topics page:
1. I LIKE IT!!!
2. My initial thought is that putting access to the Daily Topics page on the top toolbar could make it "obscure;" that is, I never noticed this toolbar until I read your directions in the body.
3. Is it necessary to display the date "bars"? Some people might be reluctant to edit if they sense it is an "old" (earlier than today) topic, but maybe not. Just thinking aloud ...
4. I read Jim's comments and was wondering if we could archive by year and week # e.g., 2008-[1-52] vs. a daily archive?

- Thanks for the feedback! I'm open to suggestions about where else to put the link but I'm strongly against embedding it in an already very cluttered page. We can vote on this if we come up with some options. I understand your concern about the "date bars", but how will people edit pages without them? We can't have section edits with nested templates. I think the archiving comment was only if we started putting several topics on a page (like the "old days"). These are still on individual pages so I don't see the need. If you are referring to adding various categories to the pages, someone would have to do that manually. Feel free if you want. Kelli (talk/contribs) 08:37, September 19, 2008 (AKDT)
- Update - I may have an idea about the date bars and section edits. I'll let you know if I get it working. Kelli (talk/contribs) 08:45, September 19, 2008 (AKDT)
Discussion & Talk
The Discussion & Talk page appears to have been set up as a place where Wheatheads could enter into some of the pros and cons before making changes to the site. However, it appears there has not been a lot of participation in this process recently. Should we try to revive this process? Or should we try something else that gets folks interested again. Talk to me! Gearhead (talk/contribs) 14:39, September 18, 2008 (AKDT)
- I wish I knew the answer, Gearhead. It has been an ongoing struggle to get people interested/involved. I guess just lead by example.
There is an active topic right now (about the Daily Topic) so hopefully people will get involved. Kelli (talk/contribs) 05:20, September 19, 2008 (AKDT)
Am I doing this Right?
I've put MY post on YOUR Talk page. Is that how it is supposed to be done? I ask you a Q or give an opinion on YOUR page, and then you answer it on MY page? If that's not it, then please explain. Don't worry; I'm not going to pester you too much. I'll begin finding answers on my own soon. Gearhead (talk/contribs) 12:55, September 18, 2008 (AKDT)
- Yes. Anytime you want to leave a message for a particular user, use their talk page since they won't likely be monitoring yours. Sometimes we copy the message in both places when responding (like I've done here), but I'm guilty of not always doing that. In case you haven't seen it already, Category:How_to contains links with wiki tutorials. Kelli (talk/contribs) 13:04, September 18, 2008 (AKDT)
This Is work!
Yes, I will admit that my hands are not as fast on the keyboard as they used to be. My mind tends to wander a bit. And my position, typing in bed, is not ideal.
All things considered, however, this Wiki still poses a steep learning curve. After all my spare time for over two weeks, and some more time I stole from other worthy causes, I think I may have peeled back the first layer of the onion. Now I'm gonna give my attention back where it belongs for a while. Then, who knows? Wiki or bust? Gearhead (talk/contribs) 12:05, September 18, 2008 (AKDT)
Blown away
Kelli - I am blown away by what you are putting into production and what I see on your sandbox pages. The sorting columns stuff is something I never thought I'd see on WWR. My hat is literally off to you. (I'll put it back on now!) Thank you for heading up the entire DPL movement and doing it so well.
Nice pic! You're welcome. I'm having fun when I don't want to tear my hair out. The syntax is crazy but I'm managing by just plugging things in to see if they work.

Inputbox
Hey - I put in a new version of Inputbox and made the suggested fix to get Namespace to work. I took the liberty of editing User:Kelli/inputbox to test. I think it works better. Jim (talk/contribs) 13:39, September 26, 2008 (AKDT)
Discussion_topics
I modified Discussion_topics a little as you'll see. The reason I didn't create a page for News Item is that I don't understand the difference between a discussion item that is closed and a news item? If that's what a news item is, then I'd vote to change that term to "Closed discussions" or "Archived discussions" or something like that. No biggie.
On a day that I'm goofing, I will probably make a sandbox page with all that stuff and Feature Requests, Bugs and other stuff like that all on a single page. I love your format and how much info can be put in a small space. And I like single pages that I can check daily that have everything that's going on (ala Recent Changes but a more user-friendly layout). Anyway, when and if I do, you'll be the first to know so you can see.
Thanks for making DPL a reality Kelli. Thank you. Jim (talk/contribs) 08:26, September 27, 2008 (AKDT)
Happy Birthday 2008
Happy Birthday, sparx! Miss you around here.

- Thank you, Kelli! Birthday wishes from you mean a lot to me. And I miss you, too.

Chat & Daily Topic Creation
It seems like these are usually created for the week by now so thought maybe they didn't get done with the problems lately. No big deal to manually create them. Kelli (talk/contribs) 13:58, October 4, 2008 (AKDT)
- Oh, yeah. Um, I remember coding it originally to happen on Saturday night - or maybe it was Friday night. You are really observant if you know they're late. Lemme look at the code....hmmmm... okay ... yup, it's supposed to happen at 00:00:01 on Saturday (i.e. immediately after Friday midnight) ... and it didn't so I'll make it run again. Okay - there they are. Yeah, I've been wondering about the "daily" topic pages - if you need me to turn that off so they can be made anytime, just let me know. It's a 1-line change. Jim (talk/contribs) 14:41, October 4, 2008 (AKDT)
- I've wondered about that too, but it's working fine as it is. I think it should be decided be the community but I haven't had any luck starting a discussion about it. In order for the DPL method to work we need consistent page names and category and/or template use. So, it depends on what the community is willing to do I guess. www.wholewheatradio.org vs. wholewheatradio.org
You probably saw that I modified Template:Request2 - I changed www.wholewheatradio.org to wholewheatradio.org - I also did that in Template:Request. I can't fully explain why www no longer works --- it is because our official URL is now wholewheatradio.org and not www.wholewheatradio.org (and Apache config files make it so by redirecting www.wholewheatradio.org to wholewheatradio.org) --- but the important thing is just to stop using the www and things will sometimes magically start working.
