FreeBSD is a complete computer operating system and userland. It is operationally and philosophically silimar to Linux in that it's open source and uses UNIX commands, but with some historical and technical differences.

If you're running FreeBSD and would like to listen to a Whole Wheat Radio audio stream, check out the FreeBSD section on the amaroK page. Other media players which have been listed as being Linux based will generally work on FreeBSD too.

Beastie

The BSD mascot is Beastie, also known as the BSD Daemon, named after the OS's hidden software processes. In the last few years Beastie has been sighted wearing headphones, possibly listening to the high speed stream of Whole Wheat Radio, but it could have just been a quail, or an old man's face which was mistaken for a quail during a hunting expedition. They look so similar it's uncanny.

Troubleshooting

If you get an Error dialog box in your graphical audio player such as Exaile when you try to play Whole Wheat Radio audio streams, you might not have the required gstreamer plugins installed.

Check your installed FreeBSD packages with pkg_info | grep gstreamer. You should have at least these installed:
