From WWR
I've noticed quite a few songs which have electronic keyboard music. Do we use Synthesizer to tag these tunes or should there be electronic organ and piano tags? Atuuschaaw (talk/contribs) 02:39, June 16, 2008 (AKDT)
- I don't know enough about these instruments, but I do think that instrument tags should be based on sound. Can the average listener tell a difference in the sound? Category:Electric_piano already exists. Would just using a Piano or Organ tag combined with an Electric tag be sufficient? Kelli (talk/contribs) 07:19, June 16, 2008 (AKDT)
- To me, electric pianos, electric organs, and synthesizers each have a distinct sound. Therefore, I suggest we go with Electric Piano, Electric Organ, and Synthesizer tags or Piano and Organ tags specified in conjunction with the Electric tag. Since synthesizers are electronic by default, I believe the Electric tag would be redundant. Kimchifox (talk/contribs) 08:36, June 16, 2008 (AKDT)
- Yeah, I saw the electric piano tag, but an electric piano isn't the same thing as an electronic piano. (I don't think!) I have always referred to the electronic keyboards (piano and organ) as simply Keyboards. What if we created a Keyboard tag and use it in conjunction with piano or organ? Atuuschaaw (talk/contribs) 09:01, June 16, 2008 (AKDT)
- Ah, you are correct about Electronic vs. Electric. Kelli (talk/contribs) 09:21, June 16, 2008 (AKDT)

(kicking us back to lefthand column) Seems like doing whatever the most possible people will remember and use is good. I do like the idea of "Keyboards" as a catch-all and then experts can narrow down if they want? I definitely like "Synthesizer" because, when used as a synth, that sound is so distinctive. Synths produce a variety of sounds. Electric pianos and organs aren't the same, since they primarily are limited to supplanting acoustic pianos/organs. --terri (talk/contribs) 11:02, June 18, 2008 (AKDT)
I agree that there should be multiple tags for this variety of related, yet sometimes quite distinctly sounding musical instruments. Denali (talk/contribs) 22:13, June 22, 2008 (AKDT)
Voting: Add a Keyboard tag
To use on songs with an electronic keyboard (see above).

- Jim (talk/contribs) 10:22, June 23, 2008 (AKDT) except that I don't think it will be used the way it's been defined (electronic keyboards) but it's still a useful term
