Is there a way to separate email addresses which someone looked for and determined didn't exist, versus email addresses not yet looked for? I see a couple of options:

  • Delete the email entry when no email is found.
  • Replace Email with Contact or add a Contact option. We could then provide a link to artist contact forms or myspace pages.

Otherwise it seems people could waste time looking for the same email addresses. Thoughts? Other ideas?

How about marking it as "Looked for but not found" That way someone could look again at a later date to see if the artist has gotten an email address. CooleyBufo (talk/contribs) 12:07, June 30, 2008 (AKDT)

Resolution (I hope)

Okay. Things moved around. Here it is:

Category:Artists with unknown email address - no one has tried looking for these yet
Category:Artists with no email address - someone tried but found nothing

Here are your choices on the artist page for email:

  • Email=xyz@abc.com (the normal thing you'd think for an email address)
  • Email=http://www.joeblow.com/mymail.htm (point to a URL email page on the artist's site)
  • Email=unknown (no one has ever looked for an email - the default when a new artist page is created)
  • Email=none (someone has looked and found no email address or webpage for email - artist is likely to be deleted)

CD Baby and MySpace

I consider CD Baby and MySpace to be valid forms of contact, but wanted to see if there is an "official" policy before I spend more time on this. Kelli (talk/contribs)

Ugh. Definitely yes on CDBaby as it's linked to an email account that is used for the business/money stuff so most artists are going to try to keep it going. MySpace? Someone else will have to say. I figure most people turn off any contact via MySpace.  ??? Jim (talk/contribs) 18:07, July 20, 2008 (AKDT)
Not in my experience. I've contacted several artists (even Peter Mulvey) via MySpace. I figure that is a big benefit of MySpace. And if it is their only site, it wouldn't make sense to turn off the contact ability. Kelli (talk/contribs) 18:09, July 20, 2008 (AKDT)
Okay - makes sense. Go for it. The only other downside I know of is that when it comes time to get the artists to come to WWR and approve their artist pages and songs etc. then a volunteer team will have to manually write all the people without standard @ email addresses.
