Filling the New York Novelty Music niche since 1991, CAB CITY COMBO is comprised of members of many New York City bands with styles that include metal, punk, rock, classic rock, rock and roll, punk, pop, bluegrass, C&W and novelty-klezmer. And punk.
Our first CD, Pork Side of the Moon, covers 20th Century releases including Jesus Jr., Aqualounge, and Big Umbrella!
The combo has been featured on the nationally syndicated Dr. Demento show and garnered some lovely hate-mail! Jello Biafra was encouraging, but totally stopped short of producing our album. "Bermuda" Schwartz also said nice things, but we're still self-produced. There are Christmas songs, songs about assassination, diabetes, Buster Keaton, mythological monkey kings, Star Trek, native american snacks; you know, all the usual novelty mainstays.
Our second CD, Cabbie Road is a wonderfully actionable effort that takes us into the current decade with songs like My Cabbie is a Madman, Ghostriders Up the Nose, and Sam Barleycorn. It includes the minor classical gem Peter and the Wolf and the Burrito.
At Wackypalooza, held in San Francisco in 2000, we won one of the first Wackys from the now-defunct mp3wacky.com.
Some have called us Weird with a Beard! Okay, the guy who plays our keyboard has called us that....
